The key interpretation from Kylian Mbappé’s words— on the football superstar, Lionel Messi— is that true greatness combines excellence with humility. Mbappé’s astonishment at Lionel Messi’s humility highlights how, despite Messi’s extraordinary talent and global fame, he remains respectful—traits that elevate his greatness beyond a mere skill. It suggests that character, not just ability, defines lasting admiration and leadership. In essence, Messi embodies the idea that the highest level of mastery is expressed through modesty, reminding us that humility amplifies, rather than diminishes, genuine greatness.
Mbappé astonished by Messi’s down-to-earth nature

Mbappé has been stunned by the legend’s simplicity, revealing that Messi’s greatness lies not only in talent but in humility. According to Yahoo in its 12 October 2025 story, “He’s very normal person”: Mbappe’s surprising confession about what Lionel Messi was really like. This media organization adds “Kylian Mbappe’s described his time alongside Lionel Messi at Paris Saint Germain as ‘stroke of luck’ revealing that the Argentine legend was surprisingly ‘ordinary & humble’ off the pitch.”
Yahoo further states that Mbappé has said so in an interview with Movistar, whereby the Real Madrid striker has recalled his 2 seasons with Messi in PSG between 2021 and 2023. “Playing with Messi was pure luck. I never imagined I’d share team with him, He’s a very normal person. When you’re famous, people create image of you but he was just respectful, calm and genuine. As player he’s unique. I was lucky to be able to play with Leo Messi. He is totally normal, he has respect for everyone.”
Yahoo emphasizes “Messi & Mbappe formed lethal partnership in Paris combining for 67 game, 14 goal assisted by the Frenchman and 20 returned by Messi. Alongside Neymar they built one of Europe’s most feared attacks until both south Americans left the club in 2023.”
Not all famous personalities are humble
While Messi’s humility stands as a rare testament to how greatness can coexist with modesty, not all celebrities are—or are regarded as—humble. Fame, for some, has often amplified ego rather than character. For instance, Kanye West, despite his artistic brilliance, has frequently been criticized for self-aggrandizing remarks and public outbursts that overshadow his talent. Such an example illustrates how easily stardom can blur the line between confidence and conceit—making Messi’s humility shine even more brightly in the often pride-driven world of celebrity.
On 26 November 2021, the website—Bet—published a story headlined “Kanye West Admits To Alcoholism, Arrogance And How He ‘Embarrassed’ Kim Kardashian In Brutally Honest Thanksgiving Prayer”. Immediately after this title, this story highlights “It appears that the artist wants to reconcile with his estranged wife.”

“Ye, the rap superstar formerly known as Kanye West, posted a ‘Thanksgiving Prayer’ video on Instagram in which he owns up to his shortcomings, including embarrassing his wife Kim Kardashian West, abusing alcohol and not controlling his ego. It appears that the artist wants to reconcile with Kardashian after she filed for divorce to end a nearly seven-year marriage.” Filing for divorce was completed in 2021. Divorce was finalized in 2022.
Bet says that the rapper confessed his “self-righteous Christian behavior” and being “arrogant with my Jesus.” A “self-righteous Christian” refers to a person who believes they are morally superior to others because of their religious beliefs or behavior — often judging or condemning others while failing to recognize their own faults. “When I got saved, it did not immediately make me a better person. It made me a self-righteous Christian,” he once said. “Mix that with being rich, famous and very, very, very, very, very attractive and you got a Molotov cocktail ready to be thrown through the window of anyone who ever disagreed with me.”
A Molotov cocktail is a hand-thrown incendiary weapon—regard it as a firebomb, symbolizing something volatile and destructive. “Molotov cocktail”, here, is employed as a metaphor for an extremely dangerous, explosive combination of traits — his ego, pride, fame, wealth, and sense of self-righteousness — that could explode fiercely against anyone who challenged or criticized him. The phrase “ready to be thrown through the window of anyone who ever disagreed with me” means that he was utterly ready to lash out or attack verbally or emotionally anyone who opposed or criticized him. So, in plain language, he’s admitting that all those traits together — his arrogance, wealth, fame, and vanity — transformed him into an intensely volatile person who reacted aggressively toward anyone who didn’t agree with him.
Newsweek, in its 26 November 2021 story entitled “Full Transcript of Kanye West’s ‘Thanksgiving Prayer’ on Instagram” matches Bet’s account on Ye. On the issue of arrogance, the transcript on Newsweek highlights “Ego. My ego has a tendency to go past the threshold of being motivating and entertaining to just being overbearing, there are ways to show confidence without arrogance. ” The Cambridge Dictionary defines ‘overbearing” as too confident and too determined to tell other people what to do, in a way that is unpleasant: haughty, domineering, imperious.
Ye concluded his prayer with a thank-you message. “This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the family that my wife has given me. I’m thankful for the life that God has given me.”
The pitfalls of pompousness
Arrogance, when fueled by fame, wealth, or power, often becomes a double-edged sword that damages both reputation and relationships. Being pompous might initially appear as confidence or self-assurance, but over time, it reveals an inflated sense of superiority that alienates others. The danger lies in how easily admiration can turn into aversion when pride overshadows humility. Numerous public figures have experienced this shift—where their brilliance was eclipsed by their own ego.

Kanye West’s reflections in his “Thanksgiving Prayer” serve as a candid example of how unchecked arrogance can corrode one’s character and relationships. He admitted that his self-righteousness and arrogance, combined with fame and physical allure, turned him into what he called a “Molotov cocktail ready to be thrown through the window of anyone who ever disagreed” with him. The metaphor exposes the destructive volatility that often accompanies conceit—a volatile mixture of pride, defensiveness, and intolerance for criticism.
Pompousness creates a false sense of infallibility. When individuals believe that they are beyond reproach, they stop learning, listening, and growing. In creative fields such as music or sports, this mindset can suffocate innovation and strain collaboration. Arrogance blinds one to self-improvement, replacing curiosity with certainty. As the Cambridge Dictionary defines “overbearing” as being “too confident and too determined to tell other people what to do”, this accurately captures the essence of haughtiness—commanding rather than inspiring, dominating rather than leading. Such behavior often erodes the trust and respect necessary for healthy personal and professional relationships.
Moreover, pride can make one emotionally isolated. When surrounded by people who are afraid to disagree, an individual loses access to genuine feedback and empathy. The constant need to appear superior creates inner tension and instability. In the long run, pompousness becomes self-destructive, breeding resentment in others and dissatisfaction within oneself. Kanye West’s confession that his ego exceeded being “motivating and entertaining” to becoming “overbearing” reveals how thin the line is between confidence and conceit. His eventual acknowledgment of this flaw was an act of redemption—a recognition that arrogance, left unchecked, is corrosive. True self-awareness often begins with humility, and pompousness, by contrast, leads only to isolation and the slow collapse of one’s credibility and peace of mind.
The power of humility amid greatness
In contrast, humility changes greatness into something enduring and inspiring. Mbappé’s admiration for Messi encapsulates this truth perfectly. Despite Messi’s unparalleled success—8 Golden Ball awards, record-breaking goals, and global adoration—he remains calm, respectful, and cool. As Mbappé told Movistar, “He’s a very normal person. When you’re famous, people create an image of you, but he was just respectful, calm, and genuine.” These words reveal that what astonishes most about Messi is not his talent but his temperament. His humility enhances his brilliance, making him more than a legend on the field—it makes him a role model off it.

True humility does not mean diminishing one’s achievements or denying one’s strengths. It means recognizing that talent constitutes a gift to be shared, not flaunted. It allows greatness to coexist with kindness. Messi’s behavior, as highlighted in Yahoo’s 12 October 2025 report, shows that modesty can thrive even in the blinding spotlight of fame. His willingness to treat everyone with respect—teammates, staff, and fans alike—demonstrates that humility forms the most beautiful form of strength. This attitude contrasts sharply with the pride-driven culture that often defines celebrity life, proving that simplicity can coexist with success without diminishing it.
Humility amid greatness like Messi’s leaves a lasting legacy that extends beyond personal achievements. By remaining modest despite extraordinary talent and fame, he demonstrates that true influence is measured not only by what one accomplishes but by how one inspires others. Messi’s demeanor fosters respect, admiration, and loyalty, transforming teammates into collaborators rather than competitors. His example shows that excellence paired with humility uplifts everyone around, encouraging shared success and mutual growth. This quiet strength ensures that greatness is remembered not merely for records or accolades, but also for character and the positive impact left on others.
Furthermore, humility sustains peace of mind. Unlike arrogance which breeds defensiveness and isolation, modesty nurtures gratitude and balance. It keeps one teachable and connected to reality. The most remarkable aspect of Messi’s character is that his greatness does not make others feel small—it inspires them to rise. As Mbappé’s reflection implies, true mastery lies not merely in what one achieves but in how one carries it. Humility, therefore, is not the absence of pride—it is pride refined by wisdom. It is the quiet force that turns skill into legacy and fame into inspiration.
Haughtiness—the evil no one desires
Haughtiness is a subtle yet destructive evil—one that corrodes the heart and isolates the soul. It deceives the one who harbors it into believing that they are elevated, while in truth, it drags them further from peace and genuine connection. What proves its wickedness is that no one, not even those consumed by arrogance, desires to be treated with the same disdain which they display. The arrogant may enjoy dominance, but they cannot endure being belittled. This contradiction exposes the deep hypocrisy of pride: it demands reverence yet denies respect.
Arrogance poisons relationships, replacing warmth with coldness and equality with hierarchy. It breeds resentment rather than admiration, fear rather than loyalty. Even those who are saturated with it crave humility from others, for humility soothes whereas pride provokes. The arrogant person’s greatest torment is that they secretly yearn for the very grace they refuse to give. Thus, haughtiness stands not as a sign of strength, but as a confession of inner weakness—a fragile ego masked by inflated self-importance. To despise arrogance in others while embodying it oneself is to live in contradiction, proving that haughtiness, in all its forms, is an evil that no heart truly welcomes.
Breaking free from arrogance: awareness as the first step
Arrogance, though deeply ingrained, does not constitute an unchangeable trait. A person who sustains pompous behavior already possesses the power to dismantle it, for the capacity to reflect, recognize flaws, and act lies within them. The journey begins with awareness—an honest acknowledgment that pride and ego have overshadowed growth, relationships, and inner peace. Kanye West’s candid confession in his “Thanksgiving Prayer” illustrates this crucial first step. By admitting that his fame, wealth, and self-righteousness created a “Molotov cocktail” of volatility, he demonstrated that recognizing one’s destructive patterns is both humbling and empowering.

Awareness alone is not enough; it must be paired with a determination to change. Breaking free from arrogance requires a deliberate choice to replace overbearing pride with humility, and empathy. It involves pausing before reacting, listening before judging, and valuing others alongside oneself. Every individual already carries this capacity, as the same traits that feed arrogance—intelligence, confidence, and influence—can be redirected toward self-improvement. By embracing humility as a conscious practice rather than a passive trait, a person revolutionizes not only their character but also the quality of their relationships and their ability to lead with authenticity. Liberation from pompousness stands possible, beginning with the courage to see and the resolve to act.
According to Tony Robbins, all great leaders became more than they ever thought possible with one thing: an extraordinary hunger, among other crucial leadership and success traits.
In an undated story, headlined “HOW TO LEAD LIKE A LEGEND: TRAITS & SKILLS OF TOP LEADERS”, Robbins stresses “Hunger is what separates being a ‘good’ leader from a truly exceptional leader.” Nevertheless, this is not the ending hunger. The hunger is “the insatiable drive to do more, to be more, to give more – and ultimately become more. This hunger is how you do more for others than anyone else is currently doing.”
To be able to defeat any vices like arrogance, you need to summon this kind of hunger, though Robbins advises us to use this hunger in accomplishing wealth and fulfillment success. Robbins affirms “Hunger forces you to raise your standards, which cultivates real growth and helps you unleash your passion and maximize your innate gifts. Insatiable hunger will drive you to achieve your biggest dreams and compel you to find the right tools and strategies to bring those dreams to life. Hunger is the ultimate driver that moves you to model success and find the strategies that bring you to where you want to go.
So, where does this hunger come from? Sometimes, the most successful leaders get their hunger from a pain they experienced in life, fueling a passion that reaches beyond themselves. This insatiable hunger often comes from something that was missing – such as a father figure, an education or experiencing food insecurity. And they found a way to transform it into the greatest hunger of all: to serve something greater than yourself.” For more about Robbins, you can click on these articles: Tony Robbins’ hardships: proof that with adversity, you are on the right path to incredible success and transformation and “Who would have guessed that this decision would bring me to such an incredible moment?” Robbins.
