It suggests that character, not just ability, defines lasting admiration and leadership. In essence, Messi embodies the idea that the highest level of mastery is expressed through modesty, reminding us that humility amplifies, rather than diminishes, genuine greatness.
Mbappé astonished by Messi’s down-to-earth nature
Mbappé has been stunned by the legend’s simplicity, revealing that Messi’s greatness lies not only in talent but in humility. According to Yahoo in its 12 October 2025 story, “He’s very normal person”: Mbappe’s surprising confession about what Lionel Messi was really like. This media organization adds “Kylian Mbappe’s described his time alongside Lionel Messi at Paris Saint Germain as ‘stroke of luck’ revealing that the Argentine legend was surprisingly ‘ordinary & humble’ off the pitch.”
Yahoo further states that Mbappé has said so in an interview with Movistar, whereby the Real Madrid striker has recalled his 2 seasons with Messi in PSG between 2021 and 2023. “Playing with Messi was pure luck. I never imagined I’d share team with him, He’s a very normal person. When you’re famous, people create image of you but he was just respectful, calm and genuine. As player he’s unique. I was lucky to be able to play with Leo Messi. He is totally normal, he has respect for everyone.”
Yahoo emphasizes “Messi & Mbappe formed lethal partnership in Paris combining for 67 game, 14 goal assisted by the Frenchman and 20 returned by Messi. Alongside Neymar they built one of Europe’s most feared attacks until both south Americans left the club in 2023.”
Not all famous personalities are humble
While Messi’s humility stands as a rare testament to how greatness can coexist with modesty, not all celebrities are—or are regarded as—humble. Fame, for some, has often amplified ego rather than character. For instance, Kanye West, despite his artistic brilliance, has frequently been criticized for self-aggrandizing remarks and public outbursts that overshadow his talent. Such an example illustrates how easily stardom can blur the line between confidence and conceit—making Messi’s humility shine even more brightly in the often pride-driven world of celebrity.
On 26 November 2021, the website—Bet—published a story headlined “Kanye West Admits To Alcoholism, Arrogance And How He ‘Embarrassed’ Kim Kardashian In Brutally Honest Thanksgiving Prayer”. Immediately after this title, this story highlights “It appears that the artist wants to reconcile with his estranged wife.”
“Ye, the rap superstar formerly known as Kanye West, posted a ‘Thanksgiving Prayer’ video on Instagram in which he owns up to his shortcomings, including embarrassing his wife Kim Kardashian West, abusing alcohol and not controlling his ego. It appears that the artist wants to reconcile with Kardashian after she filed for divorce to end a nearly seven-year marriage.” Filing for divorce was completed in 2021. Divorce was finalized in 2022.
Bet says that the rapper confessed his “self-righteous Christian behavior” and being “arrogant with my Jesus.” A “self-righteous Christian” refers to a person who believes they are morally superior to others because of their religious beliefs or behavior — often judging or condemning others while failing to recognize their own faults. “When I got saved, it did not immediately make me a better person. It made me a self-righteous Christian,” he once said. “Mix that with being rich, famous and very, very, very, very, very attractive and you got a Molotov cocktail ready to be thrown through the window of anyone who ever disagreed with me.”
A Molotov cocktail is a hand-thrown incendiary weapon—regard it as a firebomb, symbolizing something volatile and destructive. “Molotov cocktail”, here, is employed as a metaphor for an extremely dangerous, explosive combination of traits — his ego, pride, fame, wealth, and sense of self-righteousness — that could explode fiercely against anyone who challenged or criticized him. The phrase “ready to be thrown through the window of anyone who ever disagreed with me” means that he was utterly ready to lash out or attack verbally or emotionally anyone who opposed or criticized him. So, in plain language, he’s admitting that all those traits together — his arrogance, wealth, fame, and vanity — transformed him into an intensely volatile person who reacted aggressively toward anyone who didn’t agree with him.
Newsweek, in its 26 November 2021 story entitled “Full Transcript of Kanye West’s ‘Thanksgiving Prayer’ on Instagram” matches Bet’s account on Ye. On the issue of arrogance, the transcript on Newsweek highlights “Ego. My ego has a tendency to go past the threshold of being motivating and entertaining to just being overbearing, there are ways to show confidence without arrogance. ” The Cambridge Dictionary defines ‘overbearing” as too confident and too determined to tell other people what to do, in a way that is unpleasant: haughty, domineering, imperious.
Ye concluded his prayer with a thank-you message. “This Thanksgiving, I’m thankful for the family that my wife has given me. I’m thankful for the life that God has given me.”
The pitfalls of pompousness
Arrogance, when fueled by fame, wealth, or power, often becomes a double-edged sword that damages both reputation and relationships. Being pompous might initially appear as confidence or self-assurance, but over time, it reveals an inflated sense of superiority that alienates others. The danger lies in how easily admiration can turn into aversion when pride overshadows humility. Numerous public figures have experienced this shift—where their brilliance was eclipsed by their own ego.
