  1. How will this law permit you to achieve your dream?
  2. Individuals who used this principle, to overcome adversities of the ultimate intensity

Concentrate Your Forces: focus your resources and energies where you’ll have the most impact or get the most benefit. Otherwise, you’ll waste limited time and energy,” constitutes Law 23 of Robert Greene’s book: The 48 Laws of Power. The book comprises lessons [from the lives of strong historical personalities] which, according to Greene, form laws which you can respect and then become powerful in your life.

How will this law permit you to achieve your dream?

Focusing your forces represents a strategic principle which underscores the importance of concentrating resources and efforts in areas where the efforts will generate the greatest result. This way helps to avoid the dilution of time, energy, and resources on multiple fronts. Employing your forces in multiple spheres, which can be termed effort dispersion causes inefficiency and reduced effectiveness.

Effort dispersion means the spreading or scattering of resources including time, and energy, among others across too several tasks, projects, or goals simultaneously, producing reduced effectiveness and efficiency. This phenomenon prevents focus and hinders the achievement of significant achievements.

Channeling efforts on specific high-priority areas allows you to attain more significant and meaningful results, since this approach ensures deeper penetration and stronger influence in your picked field of action. Concentrating assets averts the waste of time and energy on less important or lower-yield tasks. It assures that efforts are not spread too thinly.

In competition, the concentration of your forces will furnish a strategic edge over competitors who spread their resources too broadly. It enables the creation of strongholds or forts of dominance which function as bases for future enlargement.

Focusing your forces, which can also be called effective concentration encompasses the optimal distribution of limited resources [time, money, manpower, or materials] on aspects which matter the most.

Concentrated efforts build momentum or inspiration, because small successes in one area produce a ripple effect, leading to further successes which will beget a global success being the achievement of your dream. It actually assists in maintaining sustained progress and motivation within teams and organizations.

Concentration of forces demands the establishment of clear objectives and goals, to safeguard direction and purpose. This will facilitate better planning and implementation.

The concentration of forces applies to business, personal development, project management and even military strategy. In business, companies focus their operations on the most promising projects. In personal development, individuals channel their efforts on a few key skills which will supply them with the most advantage to their career or personal life, rather than concurrently upgrading numerous areas. In project management, managers assure that their team’s efforts are focused on vital milestones and deliverables, instead of being distracted by less important tasks.

Vivekananda in Chicago, September 1893, according to Wikipedia,  in note on the left Vivekananda wrote “One infinite pure and holy – beyond thought beyond qualities I bow down to thee”

Swami Vivekananda arrived on the Earth in 1863 and died in 1902. He was an Indian Hindu monk, philosopher, and spiritual leader. He fulfilled a major role in introducing the Indian philosophies of Vedanta and Yoga to the Western world. He is famous for his speech at the World’s Parliament of Religions in Chicago in 1893. He then talked to a diverse audience and got widespread recognition for his eloquence and insights.

Based on Vivekananda, Sawan Books affirms that concentration carries tremendous power and that it can accomplish miracles for your success. India’ leading online children book store, Sawan Books, states that when Vivekananda was in Chicago in the United States of America, he saw some boys attempting to shoot eggshells floating in a river. As the shells rolled up and down on the small waves, the boys could not hit them. All the boys tried a number of times, but all of them missed the target. They noticed that Vivekananda watched them with keen interest,” says Sawan Books before adding that they called out to him “You have been watching all the time. Do you think you can do better?

This book store further says that Vivekanda smiled and told them that he was going to try it. “Taking the gun in his hand, he aimed at the egg-shells, concentrating for some time on the target. Then, he fired the gun twelve times and he hit an egg-shell each time. The boys were wonderstruck on seeing Swamiji’s skill, especially when they came to know that he was handling the gun for the first time.

Sawan Books adds that they asked “Sir, how could you do this without any practice?” According to Sawan Books, he laughed again and answered “Well, I will tell you the secret. Whatever you may be doing, concentrate all your attention on it. Think of nothing else. If you are shooting,  keep your mind only on the target. Your aim will not fail. Concentration can work wonders. Even when you are studying think only of the lesson in hand.

A Japanese man reportedly shot an arrow into a rock in the past, just because of concentration. It is reported that he glimpsed a tiger close to him and automatically fired the arrow at the tiger with all of his might and full concentration. The arrow instantaneously penetrated the tiger, but on the next day he was astounded to find that it was not a tiger, but a rock which the arrow extremely pierced. He found the arrow, planted into the rock.

These stories serve as an undeniable proof that concentration on any field will yield spectacular outcomes. Ensuring that your mind is entirely concentrated on a given thing, you will reap amazing results. If you thus concentrate all your forces [ time, thoughts, energy and other resources like money] on your most advantageous area, you will assuredly achieve marvelous success.

Individuals who used this principle, to overcome adversities of the ultimate intensity

Life In Humanity can argue that people who have applied this principle can be so countless that it cannot name all of them.  Therefore, the following are some of them.

Late Thomas Edison

Edison faced countless failures before producing the successful light bulb. He famously tried so several different materials for the filament, but he never lost focus on his goal. His unwavering determination and focused energy on his invention helped him to achieve groundbreaking success, even when failure seemed inevitable.

Smithsonian Magazine said to be a credible and reputable publication  constitutes the official magazine of the Smithsonian Institution— one of the world’s leading cultural and research organizations. Smithsonian Magazine in its 20 November 2013 article reported “Thomas Edison was one of the most successful innovators in American history. He was the ‘Wizard of Menlo Park,’ a larger-than-life hero who seemed almost magical for the way he snatched ideas from thin air. But the man also stumbled, sometimes tremendously.” In response to a question about his missteps, according to this magazine, Edison once said, “I have not failed 10,000 times—I’ve successfully found 10,000 ways that will not work.”

The term “Wizard of Menlo Park” refers to Edison. This nickname highlights his impressive inventive abilities and was earned during his time at his laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey. Established in 1876, Edison’s Menlo Park lab was one of the first research and development facilities of its kind, where he and his team developed groundbreaking inventions, including the phonograph, improvements to the light bulb, and the electric power system.

Edison was dubbed a “wizard” because of the seemingly magical nature of his inventions which were revolutionary for the time and transformed everyday life. The nickname emphasizes his legacy as one of history’s great inventors and pioneers in modern technology.

Vendatu, an Indian online tutoring platform, with its November 22, 2022 article reports “Thomas Alva Edison, the most famous and highly respected American inventor of all time, said that genius comprises 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration. He showed the world that sheer determination and talent can make a huge difference in the world. With his remarkable inventions, he showed how one can become a prodigious inventor without traditional schooling. You will be surprised to know that he was homeschooled by his mother. He went on to add 1093 patents and intellectual rights to his name in different segments and holds the world record as the highest patent holder.”

Do you know how many times Edison failed to invent the bulb? We can go and buy a light bulb quite casually at a shop. Imagine failing 2774 times. Yes! He failed 2774 times according to his records and then reached a working design of an electric light bulb. This is how many times Thomas failed in making a light bulb filament that will glow in a vacuum when electricity is passed. He worked on a design that already existed. He actually did not invent but made a design that could be commercially produced.

The saying Genius is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration emphasizes the value of hard work and perseverance over natural talent or flashes of inspiration. According to the Cambridge Dictionary, perspiration is a polite word for sweat which is the clear, salty liquid that you pass through your skin, when you are hot or terrified. Sweat is usually associated with hard work.

  • 1% inspiration represents the initial idea or creative spark. While important, Edison suggests it’s only a small part of success.
  • 99% perspiration symbolizes the sustained effort, discipline, and hard work required to turn that idea into a practical, effective invention or achievement.

Edison believed that true “genius” comes more from the dedication to see an idea through, facing challenges and dedicating the effort to refine, test, and complete it, rather than relying solely on moments of insight or talent. The phrase is often used to motivate people to value persistence and resilience in their pursuits.

Late Nelson Mandela

Mandela’s fight against apartheid in South Africa was glutted with extreme hardships, including spending 27 years in prison. However, his focus on the broader goal of racial equality and justice, and his refusal to be distracted by personal grievances or hate, ultimately led to his success. His concentrated efforts to unify a nation assisted him transform South Africa into a democracy.

He once stated “Everyone can rise above their circumstances and achieve success if they are dedicated to and passionate about what they do. It always seems impossible until it’s done. Do not judge me by my successes, judge me by how many times I fell down and got back up again. It is in the character of growth that we should learn from both pleasant and unpleasant experiences. A winner is a dreamer who never gives up.”

I have walked that long road to freedom. I have tried not to falter; I have made missteps along the way. But I have discovered the secret that after climbing a great hill, one only finds that there are many more hills to climb. I have taken a moment here to rest, to steal a view of the glorious vista that surrounds me, to look back on the distance I have come. I am not a saint, unless you think of a saint as a sinner who keeps on trying. I never lose. I either win or learn. The greatest glory in living lies not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall. It is not where you start but how high you aim that matters for success.”

After Mandela breathed his las breath, the former President of the United States of America— George H. W. Bush—said “Barbara and I mourn the passing of one of the greatest believers in freedom we have had the privilege to know.  As President, I watched in wonder as Nelson Mandela had the remarkable capacity to forgive his jailers following 26 years of wrongful imprisonment — setting a powerful example of redemption and grace for us all.  He was a man of tremendous moral courage, who changed the course of history in his country.  Barbara and I had great respect for President Mandela, and send our condolences to his family and countrymen.”

The former Texas Senator Rodney Ellis, D-Houston also expressed “Texas joins the rest of the world in mourning the loss of Nelson Mandela, one of history’s bravest leaders. His sacrifice and courage in the face of unspeakable hardship demonstrated the extent to which some must fight for their freedom. We must all honor his legacy as we continue the struggle to improve all peoples’ lives. My thoughts and prayers are with the Mandela family.”

The U.S. Senator John Cornyn, R-Texas echoed the words of these dignitaries, stating “Nelson Mandela united both his country and the world around the basic dignity owed to every human being. His unwavering commitment to justice and equality remains a model for each of us. As we mourn this great leader, let us also celebrate his life and work to carry on his legacy.”

Oprah underwent numerous hardships growing up, including poverty and abuse, yet she channeled her focus on her career and education. By concentrating all her energy on her passion for media and storytelling, she not only overcame her personal challenges but also built a global media empire that has influenced millions. She once said “The reason I’ve been able to be so financially successful is my focus has never, ever for one minute been money.

The big secret in life is that there is no big secret. Whatever your goal, you can get there if you’re willing to work. The key to realizing a dream is to focus not on success but on significance–and then even the small steps and little victories along your path will take on greater meaning. Create the highest, grandest vision possible for your life, because you become what you believe. Passion is energy. Feel the power that comes from focusing on what excites you.”

Elon Musk

Musk has met several major obstacles in the early days of his companies, especially with SpaceX and Tesla, where both ventures stood on the brink of failure. However, Musk’s concentrated effort on his vision of space exploration and electric vehicles allowed him to push through those challenges. His ability to focus on these long-term goals has transformed him into one of the world’s most influential entrepreneurs. He once said “When something is important enough, you do it even if the odds are not in your favor. Persistence is very important. You should not give up unless you are forced to give up. I think it is possible for ordinary people to choose to be extraordinary.”

Brenda Michaels

Michaels is indeed another powerful example of someone who has applied intense concentration and focus to overcome an adversary that seemed insurmountable—her cancer diagnosis. Despite the devastating prognosis and the loss of much of her physical health, she chose to concentrate all her energy not on conventional treatments like chemotherapy, but on a deep, holistic approach that connected her mind, body, and spirit.

As she explains in her own words, it was through embracing her illness and taking personal responsibility for her healing that she found the strength and clarity to defeat it. Michaels’ story provides a testament to the transformative power of concentration, focus, and spiritual awareness in the face of life’s greatest challenges. Her journey also illustrates that concentration, when misdirected towards negativity, can yield equally powerful but destructive outcomes.

She says “When we ignore the signals that the stressful events present or believe we are helpless to change our circumstances or fail to take responsibility for stress that is in our life, we become victims to that situation. Once this happens, our ego-mind takes over, promises us solutions. But the ego-mind is not equipped to find solutions. Solutions can only accessed through creative energy and an awareness of ourselves as spiritual beings.

The ego-mind loves to spin negative stories that offer countless band-aid solutions in support of our powerless victim mentality. Living in this limited capacity creates enormous stress on our bodies, which in turn triggers biological responses that can weaken our immune system’s ability to access its healing energy. Living this ways takes us down the path of heartache, disappointment and inevitably illness.”

Michaels, jointly with Marsha Mercant, has written the book “ The Gift of Cancer: A Miraculous Journey to Healing” from which we have taken the words contending that we are spiritual beings. In her book she says “At age twenty-six I was given an unusual gift: cancer. I don’t say this to make light of what appeared to be an early death sentence. Cancer devastated my life. My marriage was ripped apart and our meager finances were drained away faster than we could have imagined. Over the course of fourteen years, cancer claimed my entire reproductive system, both my breasts, and left me with a prognosis of one year to live. That was twenty-four years ago. While cancer ushered in one of the most difficult periods of my life, it also ignited one of the most profound. Having cancer left me stranded in a place where no doctor had the capacity to save me.

But it led me to the truth of who I am and the realization that only I possessed the power to save myself. Forced to examine my life in new and challenging ways by the dramatic changes generated by my cancer diagnoses, I came to the understanding that if you are inclined to look for the silver lining amongst the dark clouds you will find it.”

Michaels was eventualy healed of her cancer, not using recommended chemotherapy, but instead employing profound body-mind-spirit connection; which she explains in these words “The third time I was diagnosed and told I wouldn’t survive much past a year without chemotherapy, I was devastated. But this time, instead of repeating the pattern of turning away from my problems and depending on doctors to cure me, the healer in me began to awaken. I needed to get real about what was happening in my life and set a course for wellness.

It was in the early stages of this diagnosis that I made the decision to embrace my cancer and allow it to teach me what I needed to learn. I made a commitment to heal my  body of this disease once and for all. My desire to not only get well, but to create a harmonious body, mind and spirit connection became my passion. Once that passion was ignited, an internal shift began to take place.”

J.K. Rowling

Before Harry Potter became a worldwide phenomenon, Rowling encountered numerous rejections from publishers, struggled with depression, and was living on welfare. However, she remained focused on telling her story. Her dedication to her writing, despite the adversity, ultimately resulted in one of the most successful book series in history.

  1. Its like you learn my mind! You appear to understand so much about this, such as you wrote the ebook in it or something. I feel that you simply could do with a few percent to drive the message home a little bit, but other than that, that is excellent blog. A fantastic read. I’ll certainly be back.
